When building your newsletter on Substack, customization is key to creating a unique and engaging experience for your readers. One important aspect of customization is changing your Substack subdomain URL, but traditionally, this could result in broken links. Fear not, for Substack has introduced a seamless way to change your subdomain without breaking links.
In this guide, we'll walk you through the steps of changing your Substack subdomain URL:
- Log in to your Substack account.
- Navigate to your writers dashboard.
- Click on the “Settings” tab.
Scroll down to the "Danger Zone" section on your dashboard. This is where you'll find two options to change your subdomain.
Option A) Select “Change Subdomain”: This permanently changes your publication URL and will break all link to your old newsletter.
Option B) Select “Change Subdomain without breaking links”
This permanently changes your publication URL and redirects all links to the newly chosen URL. You can only change your subdomain without breaking links once!
In the dialogue box that appears, enter the name of your new subdomain and click “Confirm”. Choose a name that aligns with your content and branding, making it easy for your readers to remember.
